Louis aiming high ahead of important F2 encounter in Hungary

Louis Delétraz is hoping a pair of positive FIA Formula Two Championship results in Hungary this weekend will ensure he enters the series’ month-long summer break on a high.

The 20-year-old has achieved an encouraging upturn in pace during the last two events at Spielberg and Silverstone, but the Racing Engineering driver hasn’t quite been able to translate that into point-scoring finishes.

With this weekend’s Feature and Sprint races at the Hungaroring being the last until the F2 series resumes at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium on 25-27 August, Louis is keen to build some momentum as the series prepares to enter its final phase of 2017.

“We’ll have had three race meetings during July and Hungary represents the last chance to score some positive results before the summer break,” he said. “Myself and the team don’t like the situation we are in but we’re taking the positives and trying to fix the negatives. Our season starts now and I can’t wait to get on track at the Hungaroring. It’s a track where I’ve been successful in the past.”

Louis, who is supported by ADS Securities in 2017, recognises he’ll need to make a fast start in Hungary as overtaking opportunities are notoriously hard to come by on the 4.38km track.

“The Hungaroring is one of the really nice tracks on the F2 calendar. There aren’t many straights so it’s hard to pass. But all the corners are very flowing, technical and great to drive,” he explained.

“The closer you start to the front of the grid the better it is. It’s also important to have a good start and a clean first lap. We’ve had a few times this year where we’ve been hit on lap one and that’s destroyed our race and weekend straight away.”

Louis will head to Racing Engineering’s Spanish headquarters on Monday (today) to review the last two events in Austria and the UK, and he’ll also undertake some Hungaroring preparation in the team’s state-of-the-art race simulator.

In the two weeks between the F2 events in the UK and Hungary, Louis was invited by his primary sponsor, ADS Securities, to spend some time with the UAE Team Emirates squad which is contesting this year’s Tour de France cycle race.

“It was a great way to relax between races and I was completely integrated into the team and given the chance to ride in the race control car,” Louis said. “It was a fantastic experience and a perfect way to spend a day. I’m really grateful I was given the opportunity to see the team’s incredible athletes ride and to learn about their approach to racing.”
