Determined Louis eyes F2 success in Spain

Louis Delétraz is determined his FIA Formula 2 Championship fortunes will change for the better when he takes to the track in Spain for the third round of the 2018 series this weekend.

With two frustrating events in Bahrain and Azerbaijan firmly behind him, the 21-year-old is looking to get back on the point-scoring trail with his Charouz Racing System team at the newly-resurfaced Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

“I’m really looking forward to the weekend – I love the track and it will be great to drive in the new F2 car,” the Swiss driver said.

“It’s clear that we’re not where we want to be in terms of the championship standings but we know why this is. We got very unlucky in Bahrain with a technical problem and then we got crashed out in Baku.

“We did a lot of good work during pre-season testing and also during the Bahrain race weekend. We were very competitive and I have no doubt we’ll be quick again. My target is to work hard, show our true pace and get some big points in Spain.”

This weekend’s visit to the 4.65km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya marks the start of an eight-race sequence of F2 events in Europe.

Louis is looking forward to getting back on familiar European territory where he knows the track and weather conditions will be less extreme. With that in mind, he thinks the F2 results could look quite different this weekend, compared to those that came out of the first two events of the season.

“Coming back to Europe, we’re racing on normal tracks that we know well. Bahrain and Baku are really unique and quite the opposite in terms of the weather you encounter and their characteristics,” the ADS Securities-supported driver said.

“Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the order is a bit shaken up this weekend. I’m sure we will probably have some surprises in Barcelona and that should make a very exciting weekend for everyone.”

Although he would have liked to have scored some championship points already, Louis is aware that the F2 season is long and that means he has plenty of opportunities and time to secure the results he knows he can with his Czech team.

He said: “We’ve only done two rounds so that means there’s still ten events and 20 more races to go. There’s no reason to be worried. We just need a bit of luck and if we don’t have anything out of our control happening, I’m confident about what we can do. I trust the team, the car and myself.”
