Louis confirms F2 campaign with Carlin

Louis Delétraz will return to the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019 with Carlin.

The 21-year-old has joined the British squad after completing a successful end of season test in Abu Dhabi with the newly-crowned Teams’ Champions.

Louis quickly adjusted to his new surroundings at the Yas Marina Circuit last month and went on to set the fastest lap time across all three days of testing with Carlin.

“I’m super excited to be joining Carlin for next season,” the ADSS-supported driver said. “I felt completely comfortable with the team during the post-season test and I think that showed in my lap times.

“My first GP2 race was with them at the end of 2016 so it’s a team I know well. I’m confident we can have a good season together in 2019.”

Louis has consistently shown his talent and speed in Formula One’s official feeder category and the Swiss driver is hoping he will be able to consistently challenge at the front of the grid with his new team.

He said: “I’ve got quite a good amount of experience in F2 and I want to be winning races and fighting for the championship. That has to be my goal for 2019.

“My successful test with Haas F1 Team in Abu Dhabi immediately after the Grand Prix last season has given me a taste of what the reward can be if you are successful in F2 and I’m more determined than ever to achieve that target.

“For sure, F2 is a hugely competitive championship but I was a podium finisher in the series last year and I was consistently quick. I feel like I can build on that momentum with Carlin and enjoy a strong season.”

Team boss Trevor Carlin welcomed Louis to his squad for 2019. He said: “We are so pleased to welcome Louis back to the team for the upcoming season. We worked with him for one race in the 2016 and in post-season testing last month in Abu Dhabi.

“He’s a fantastic driver to work with and I’m sure we can have a strong season together when we hit the ground running once again next season.”
