Louis’ aim is clear – to finish the season on a high

It’s the 2021 European Le Mans Series finale this weekend, which will be held in Portimão at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. After wrapping up the Championship at the famous Spa-Francorchamps last month, Louis Delétraz, Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye race into Round 6 full of confidence and are motivated to finish the season on a high.

Reflecting back on the season, Louis Delétraz collected 3 impressive race wins with teammates Robert and Yifei in Barcelona, at the Red Bull Ring and in Spa- Francorchamps to ensure victory in the 2021 ELMS Championship. It has been a challenging season, but the ORLEN Team WRT’s strong teamwork gave the Belgian squad the best chance to perfect team strategy and win vital races to give them the 36 point lead with only the 4hours of Portimão to go. Louis Delétraz, Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye have reached 100 points on the season, which has been a proud moment for the team in the overall Championships standings.

The Algarve International Circuit, completed in 2008 features 15 corners and covers over 4.653 kilometres with a succession of very steep climbs and descents – a similar experience to that of a roller coaster, which gives drivers a new type of aero challenge, with the downhill slopes and sweeping right-handers, but offers plenty of opportunity to overtake due to the track width.

It is another competitive grid for the 4 Hours of Portimão and will consist of 41 cars run by 28 different teams, with 120 drivers taking part and representing a total of 31 different nations from all four corners of the world. The REMUS-supported driver has already completed some testing sessions in the past at the Algarve International Circuit and also took part in the second round of the 2021 World Endurance Championship here with the Inter Europol Competition Team. Experience could be key for Louis, this weekend as the gloves are off, and the team can go full attack to win.

The racing weekend will follow the usual schedule. There is collective testing on Thursday, then the first official session will take place on Friday with Free Practice 1. Then Free Practice 2 will be on Saturday morning and the Qualifying session will follow at 15:40 CETS. The race will go green at 14:00 CEST.

Louis Delétraz: “I’m looking forward to the final round of the European Le Mans Series in Portimão. It’s been some time that I haven’t been there, so I can’t wait to enjoy the weekend with the team and my teammates, as we have already won the championship. It means we can go flat-out and full-attack for the victory!”
